Karin Burroughs, M.S. - Creator of STARS, Karin has logged thousands of miles in her hiking boots backpacking throughout the Western Unites States. Originally, her mission was to research every hot spring in the west and thusly www.soakersbible.com was born. Karin went back to school to earn her Master's degree in Outdoor Leadership and Business. During that time she synthesized her own education into teaching others, and from this transformation STARS began. Karin is a Level I Ropes Course Facilitator, Wilderness First Responder, Leave No Trace Master Educator, and CPR / Wilderness Remote First Aid Instructor.
Brian Thoroman, B.S., LMT - Has over a decade of teaching experience with folks of all ages. Tai Chi and massage are his passions and so he brings an element of spirituality to every trip. His high energy level and "Never Say Die" attitude has a tendency to energize everyone to surpass their goals and have fun doing it. Brian earned his B.S. at Southern Oregon University, where he continues to work on a Master's degree in Outdoor Education. He is a Level I Ropes Course Facilitator, Wilderness First Responder, Tai Chi Instructor, Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Personal Trainer, and has been guiding some of the finest whitewater rivers of Southern Oregon and Northern California.
Hayley Ward, B.S. - Originally from Southern Oregon, Hayley has traveled all over the west from the top of Mount Rainier all the way through Mexico. She studied Outdoor Leadership and Spanish to earn her Bachelor of Arts at Southern Oregon University, which has led her to get involved in multi-cultural adventure based leadership. Hayley has worked as a mountaineering guide in the Northern Cascades, leading summit trips on Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, and Mount Adams, and she continues to share her passion for climbing with students at SOU. Hayley is certified in Wilderness First Aid, Avalanche Awareness Level I, and is a Leave No Trace Master Educator.
