Safety Training for Adventure, Recreation, and Sustainability
Welcome to STARS, Southern Oregon's center for outdoor safety, recreation, and sustainability. Our goal here at STARS is to encourage people from all backgrounds to get outdoors and enjoy nature responsibly. From National Parks to the most remote wilderness our country has to offer, there are so many opportunities for outdoor recreation that the sky is literally the limit.
Our mission is "To educate those who enjoy working and playing outdoors, in an effort to increase awareness toward personal safety, proper planning, and sustainable practices out in the World". Whether you are an avid birder, Boy Scout, occasional front-country camper, or setting out for a summit bid on a Cascade volcano, prepare yourself ahead of time and avoid unnecessary accidents, injuries, and environmental impacts.
Why choose STARS? At STARS we believe that responsibility starts with each individual. We engage students and clients with dynamic and meaningful learning experiences while modeling the types of behavioral ethics our courses are based upon. By integrating course curriculum with creative scenarios our students are exposed to high-quality experiences where they have the opportunity to learn through practice. We want our students to gain skills and broaden their knowledge base, not just memorize facts. Whether you work or play in the outdoors, our practical approach will teach you to make solid decisions out in the world.
Now offering many different programs including wilderness medicine, Leave No Trace workshops, staff training, classes for kids and families, as well as custom trips.
